# Resolve a UniProt accession

> Resolve a UniProtKB accession or entry name to sequence, metadata, and an Atlas protein hash.

Use the UniProt lookup endpoint when you know a UniProtKB accession or entry name and need the corresponding sequence and Atlas identifier.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Request the UniProt record">
    ```python theme={null}
    import httpx
    uniprot_id = "P24941"
    response = httpx.get(
        f"https://biohub.ai/esm/protein/api/v1alpha1/uniprot/{uniprot_id}",
        timeout=30,
    )
    response.raise_for_status()
    record = response.json()
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify the resolved identity">
    ```python theme={null}
    print(record["accession"])
    print(record["protein_name"])
    print(record["organism"])
    print(record["sequence_length"])
    print(record["protein_hash"])
    ```

    Confirm that the returned identity matches the protein you intended to resolve before chaining the sequence or hash into another request.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the next Atlas request">
    Use `protein_hash` with the [protein endpoint](/api/protein/atlas/proteins/get) to retrieve a stored Atlas record.
    Use `sequence` with the [similarity-search endpoint](/api/protein/atlas/similarity-search) to find proteins with related SAE feature profiles.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The endpoint accepts UniProtKB accessions and entry names.
UniParc, MGnify, IMG, PDB, and Ensembl identifiers are not supported by this endpoint.

See the [UniProt lookup reference](/api/protein/atlas/proteins/uniprot) for exact error behavior.
